What it is

Three ways to put graphics on an office wall

Office wall graphics cover anything printed or cut for an office wall. Most projects use one of three formats, or mix them on the same floor.

  • Printed wall wraps: full-color film that covers a wall edge to edge, installed in panels. Best for murals, skylines, patterns and photo walls.
  • Cut vinyl logos and lettering: letters and shapes cut from colored film and applied straight to the paint. Best for mission statements, values and wayfinding.
  • Spot graphics: printed shapes, icons and panels placed on a painted wall. Best for core values, timelines and break rooms.

Where it works

Six walls every office has

Start with the walls people see most. These are real Ardor installs.

  • Solid purple wall wrap with the Parse Biosciences logo above a door outline, beside a concrete-floored corridor
    Brand wall

    Brand walls

    One color, one big logo

A solid brand color and a large logo turn a plain corridor wall into part of your brand, like this purple wall for Parse Biosciences.

  • Reception desk in front of a white wall with a large maroon WAT logo and the words Asbestos, Mold and Demolition Surveys
    Reception

    Reception logos

    The wall behind the desk

It's the first wall every visitor faces. A large logo with your service lines, like this one for WAT, tells people where they are and what you do.

  • Navy, blue and red office wall wrap with "Core Values" lettering, icons and a flame graphic beside conference room doors
    Core values

    Core values

    Values people walk past daily

Put your values where people see them every day. PureDry's run beside its conference rooms; UMC's run down a hallway as hexagon icons.

  • Black and white hexagon pattern wall wrap along a dark office corridor beside a leather sofa and potted plant
    Hallway

    Hallways

Give long corridors a reason to look

Corridors are the easiest walls to forget. A pattern wrap, a skyline or a company timeline gives people something to look at between meetings.

  • Employee break room with grey and orange wall wrap graphics about UMC pride-based safety culture above tables and chairs
    Break room

    Break rooms

    Culture where every shift stops

Break rooms get daily traffic from every shift. UMC used its break room wall for its pride-based safety message.

  • Office wall wrap with a blue Seattle skyline and Space Needle, mountain scenery and the Gene Johnson Heating Cooling Plumbing Electrical logo around an interior window
    Conference

    Conference rooms

    A backdrop for every call

Put a mural on the long wall and frosted film on the glass front, so the room looks finished on camera and stays private. Skylines like this Gene Johnson wrap work well behind a table.

From the research

Let your team help choose

In a University of Exeter experiment described by economist Tim Harford, people who chose their own office decor got more done than people in a bare office or in one decorated for them. We can proof two or three directions on a photo of your wall so your team can weigh in.

Process

How an office wall project runs

Ardor's process has four stages: measure, design, print and install. Here are the steps inside them.

  1. Step 01

    Measure and consult

Send photos or book a free on-site measure. We record every wall, outlet, vent and door, plus the paint's sheen and texture.

Spec3M advises testing adhesion on each wall, because paints differ.

  2. Step 02

    Design and proof

Our in-house designers build the art to your wall size and show it on a photo of your actual wall. Design is quoted separately.

SpecIndustry practice: approve outlet and switch cut-outs on the proof.

  3. Step 03

    Choose the film

Removable for leased space, permanent for owned space, textured film for block, and matte or dry-erase laminate where it fits.

SpecAvery MPI 2611 removable wall film carries an ASTM E84 Class A rating (Avery data sheet).

  4. Step 04

    Print in-house

We print in our Snohomish shop on our own equipment, including an HP 800W.

SpecPrinter named in Ardor's own install video caption.

  5. Step 05

    Dry and laminate

Prints dry before laminating, so trapped solvent can't cause bubbles later.

SpecORAFOL: dry solvent prints 24 to 72 hours. HP: Latex prints need no wait.

  6. Step 06

    Cut into panels

Each panel is cut and prepped on our Zund cutter and planned so seams land where they're least visible.

SpecAvery: overlap multi-panel graphics at least 0.5 in.

  7. Step 07

    Install

Our own crew installs. A single wall usually takes one day, and we can work after hours so the office stays open.

SpecWall film goes on dry, with no application fluid (Avery).

  8. Step 08

    Care

Wipe laminated graphics with a soft cloth and mild soap and water. Skip solvents and abrasives.

SpecArdor backs wall installs with a 1-year installation warranty and a 24-hour response.

Removable or permanent?

The adhesive decides how a graphic leaves. Here is how Avery's own wall films compare.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a wall wrap and wall graphics?

A wall wrap covers the whole wall edge to edge. Wall graphics is the wider term: it also covers cut vinyl lettering, logos and spot graphics placed on a painted wall.

Can we put graphics in a leased office?

Usually, with removable film and your landlord's OK. Removable adhesive peels cleaner, but Avery does not warrant against paint damage on removal, especially on weak or aged paint. We check your walls and tell you the removal risk before you sign.

Do we have to close the office for the install?

No. A single wall usually installs in one day, and we can work after hours or on a quiet day so your team keeps working.

Our walls were just painted. How long do we wait?

Avery says to let the final coat dry at least 7 days, and some paints take months to fully cure. Mactac notes latex paint can take 30 to 90 days. We check the paint at the on-site measure before we schedule.

Do office wall graphics have to meet fire code?

Yes. The Seattle Building Code sets the interior finish class by occupancy and sprinklers. For sprinklered business spaces, its Table 803.13 calls for Class C in rooms and corridors and Class B in exit enclosures. Many wall films are rated Class A, such as Avery MPI 2611. Confirm the code edition in force with SDCI.

What files do you need from us?

A vector logo (AI, EPS, SVG or PDF) and your brand colors, plus any photos you want to use. No files? Our designers can rebuild your logo or build the art from scratch, quoted separately.

Do wall graphics make employees more productive?

No study we found measures wall graphics and productivity directly. Research on enriched versus bare offices is encouraging, and the strongest results came when people had a say in the decor. Our ROI page lays out what each study found and its limits.

How much do office wall graphics cost?

Mostly it comes down to square footage, then the surface, film, design and access. Every wall is quoted after a free on-site measure. Our cost guide shows what moves the number.
