Why film the glass

Glass offices have a privacy problem

Glass walls keep an office bright and open. They also put every meeting, screen and phone call on display. Office window film fixes that without new walls: frost the glass where people need privacy, keep it clear where they want light and a view.

The same film can carry your brand: a frosted logo on the conference room door, room names on glass, a printed graphic at the entrance. It goes on the glass people walk past every day.

  • Privacy for conference rooms, private offices, HR and exam rooms.
  • Branding on glass doors, entrances and reception partitions.
  • Markings that help people see full-height glass.
  • Light and heat control on exterior windows with solar film.

Options

What offices put on their glass

Most projects mix two or three of these. A conference room might get a frosted band with a clear-cut logo and a door marking.

  • Etched look

    Branding

    Frosted logos

Your logo cut from frosted film, or cut out of a frosted panel so the logo stays clear. Reads like etched glass.

  • Light stays

    Privacy

    Privacy bands

A frosted band set to where people sit and stand. Heads and screens stay private while light passes above and below.

  • Full privacy

    Manifestation markings

Bands, dots or logos on full-height glass and glass doors so people notice the glass. If your building or architect has a marking spec, bring it to the estimate.

    Patterns and text

Lines, geometric patterns, values or mission statements cut from frosted film, with clear areas built into the design.

  • Full color

    Printed and color graphics

Full-color printed graphics or colored film for entrances, reception glass and brand walls.

Choosing a film for office glass

Match the film to the room. Light numbers vary widely by film, so ask which exact film is in your quote.

Industry rule of thumb: reflective and one-way films depend on which side is brighter, so they lose privacy at night when interior lights are on. Frosted film does not. Sources: 3M Crystal Glass Finishes Dusted specifications; Ardor window page.

Good to know

Privacy after dark

Frosted film keeps a room private day and night. Reflective and one-way films work by light: they hide the darker side. Industry rule of thumb: once the lights are on inside and it is dark outside, people can see in. For conference rooms on exterior glass, frosted film or a frosted band is the safer choice.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How private is frosted window film?

Frosted film blocks a clear view while letting daylight through, day and night. Light levels vary by film; 3M lists its Crystal Dusted film at 85% visible light transmission on 6 mm clear glass, and Avery Dennison's cast frosted film lists 46%.

Can you cut our logo into frosted film?

Yes. Ardor cuts custom frosted privacy film, patterns, bands and clear viewing bands. Your logo can be cut from frosted film or left clear inside a frosted panel.

Can film go on glass doors?

Yes. Glass doors and sidelights are common spots for frosted panels, logos, room names and visibility markings.

Will the film damage our glass or be hard to remove when we move?

Window graphics and most window films can be removed from glass without damaging it. A few films use permanent adhesive or cannot be removed cleanly, so tell us if you lease before you choose a film.

Do frosted films have a fire rating?

Many do. 3M's Crystal Dusted film and ORAFOL's ORACAL 8710 both list ASTM E84 Class A. If your building manager asks, request the data sheet for the exact film in your quote.

Do you design the graphics?

Yes. Ardor's in-house designers lay out the film to your glass and show you a proof before anything is cut. Design is quoted separately from film and install.

How much does office window film cost?

It depends on the glass area, the film and the design. Every project is quoted after a free on-site estimate. Call (425) 629-0796 to book one.
